Hello, and welcome to "Red Letter Lessons". I have ventured to bring you some short lessons on the Teachings of Jesus, New Testament Documents, Early Christian Community and Hebraic Perspectives. These are fairly good samples of the subjects and issues I regularly teach in the ministry and seminary classes. I have kept most of them short, between 25-40 minutes. Please leave me feedback about your likes/dislikes, comments or concerns. Your feedback helps me keep my tools sharpened.

The Hymn of the Great Pearl (26 minutes)
Written in the mid-3rd century, The Hymn of the Great Pearl was a standard read among many early Christian Communities. Possible authorship has been ascribed to Judas Thomas, along with The Apocalypse Acts of Thomas. Eventually, the popularity of this story diminished and the writing was not often mentioned in terms of possible canonical status.
But what lessons can be learned from the writing and why did the early Christians find a use for this book? Listen in as I re-tell the story of the Great Pearl and find a contemporary application for our lives today.

Where Were You?
This is a 20-minute lesson on the people that were watching the crucifixion from a distance. In reflection, where were you when great events took place? How did you vote? Who did you help in this life? What battle call did you answer? A personal and challenging lesson on participation in this world instead of passing through this world.

Understanding the Composition of the Gospels (26 minutes)
In this lesson, I will offer an explanation as to why there might be conflicting stories and narrative in our canonical gospels. Also, I will discuss looking beyond the surface of the sayings and traditions of Jesus in these Gospel records and seeing how the actual structure and composition can tell a great story. I will use the beginning episode of the history of Israel and the early-life narratives about Jesus as a base for my theory.
